OpenMausBot — an open-source Grok Bot alternative with cloud computers

OpenMausBot is an Apache-2.0 desktop chat app for a team of AI bots. Each bot runs Claude Code or Codex locally and can get its own cloud desktop or local VM. Version 0.1.136 adds bot sharing with teammates.

What is it?

OpenMausBot (formerly OpenGrokBot) is an open-source app that copies the idea of xAI's Grok Bot: a chat app where each bot is a real agent with its own personality, model, connected apps and computer. Version 0.1.136, released on October 31, 2026, adds sharing single bots with teammates (view, chat or edit), summaries of long chats while idle and a 'Just do it' mode where bots act without stopping to ask.

How does it work?

A local harness server on 127.0.0.1:8799 runs every agent process and turns the output of each provider — Claude, Codex or Grok Build — into one event stream. Bots can use a cloud Linux desktop through Boat, an isolated local VM, or, after opt-in, your own computer on macOS or Ubuntu. Shell commands and file edits show up as Allow/Deny cards, and apps like Gmail, Slack and GitHub connect through Composio.

Why does it matter?

Grok Bot is a hosted xAI product; this project gives the same multi-bot setup to people who want to keep transcripts and keys on their own machine (in ~/.openmausbot) and reuse the Claude or Codex plans they already pay for. The repo passed 10,000 GitHub stars and is on GitHub trending.
