Codex CLI 0.163.0 — steer mid-response and run read-only tools in parallel
Codex CLI 0.163.0 lets a follow-up message steer the agent while it is still answering, runs independent read-only tools in parallel, adds a searchable /config panel and a /daemon command to restart its background server.
You can now redirect Codex in the middle of a reply, and it runs independent read-only tools at the same time.
What is it?
Mid-response steering is the headline of Codex CLI 0.163.0: a follow-up message sent while the agent is still answering redirects it right away, and an interrupt now also stops active Code Mode cells. The release also turns /config into a searchable preferences panel where some settings apply immediately.
How does it work?
Independent read-only tool calls can now run in parallel instead of one after another. A configurable leader key (Ctrl+X by default) is set in /keymap, voice mute moves to F9, and /daemon restarts the managed background server.
Why does it matter?
Resuming a saved thread in this Codex release restores its permissions and network approvals, so old sessions no longer need to be re-approved. The network proxy now checks permissions before DNS lookups and rejects duplicate Host headers, and Windows and WSL paste handling is improved.
