Survival LLM — an offline AI assistant with its own emergency library

Survival LLM is a free desktop app that runs a local AI model next to a 9 GB offline library of Wikipedia, medical, FEMA and CDC guides. After setup it works with the internet off, and every answer lists the articles it read.

What is it?

Survival LLM bundles an AI assistant with an emergency reference library on one Mac or Windows computer. The library holds about 930,000 Wikipedia articles plus WikiMed, MedlinePlus, FEMA and CDC guidance, military manuals, wikiHow, iFixit and Stack Exchange answers. You can also add your own PDFs, Word files, ebooks and notes.

How does it work?

During setup the app picks a model that fits your memory: IBM Granite 4.2 8B on 16–31 GB machines, Qwen3.8 27B on Macs with 32–96 GB, NVIDIA Nemotron 3.5 Super on Macs with 128 GB or more, and Nemotron 3.5 Lightning on Windows PCs with 32 GB or more. When you ask a question, the model searches the local library, reads the matching articles and answers from them. Each answer shows which articles it opened, with the used passage highlighted, and says whether it came from read articles or from the model's own memory.

Why does it matter?

Most AI assistants stop working without a connection, which is exactly when emergency questions about first aid or repairs come up. Grounding answers in a fixed, citable library also lets the reader check the source instead of trusting a small model's memory. Questions stay on the computer, with no account and no tracking.
